When we travel to another region, country or continent, we have responsibilities when it comes to how we conduct ourselves. Responsible travel encompasses a lot of things and it’s important that we, as tourists and guests in a culture that is not our own, know what is acceptable and what isn’t.
There are a number of things we should be aware of when we leave the comfort zones of your own country including:
1) The laws in the destination you are traveling to
2) Local etiquette
3) Cultural norms, which include wearing proper clothing that is not offensive.
4)Respect for local customs including anything to do with public figures, temples, and religion.
When it comes to acting responsibly while traveling, there are many benefits. To begin with, being responsible will garner the respect of the local people and they will embrace you. Being responsible also sets an example for other tourists to follow suit. And when it comes to following laws, being responsible will keep you out of trouble and in some countries, getting in trouble can create a very negative experience for you.
