To increase the abrasion resistance of laminate, corundum is mixed into the adhesive of the overlay. The decorative paper is the visually perceived surface. The motifs are placed on it before joining the carrier plate has been printed. Besides the familiar printing of various wood structures other imprints of gravel, geometric shapes or artistic products are possible. The overlay and decorative paper are often supplied as a layer with low stress resistance.

The base plate is made of MDF or HDF. The difference between the two products is only in the higher compression and thus resulting in higher density of the HDF.
