To increase the abrasion resistance of laminate, corundum is mixed into the adhesive of the overlay. The decorative paper is the visually perceived surface. The motifs are placed on it before joining the carrier plate has been printed. Besides the familiar printing of various wood structures other imprints of gravel, geometric shapes or artistic products are possible. The overlay and decorative paper are often supplied as a layer with low stress resistance.
Flooring Contractors Canada use laminate products in Class 33 and have higher quality paper and backing plate underlay. This kraft paper is also impregnated with melamine resins. It later ensures an increased resistance to impressions, the pre-requisite for the achievement of class 33 designation.
The base plate is made of MDF or HDF. The difference between the two products is only in the higher compression and thus resulting in higher density of the HDF. The wood fiber material makes it possible to cut several milling operations in a profile in a carrier plate, which makes installation possible even for laymen.
