Although California has state-wide dog bite laws in place, the California Leash Law is in force only in a few places. In any case, it is your responsibility as a dog owner to be on the right side of the law.
If you are a pet owner and your dog bites a person, it is almost certain he or she will recover their costs from you without even having to prove that there was any fault whatsoever from your part. Your only alternative is if you manage to prove that the person knew your dog was a risk and he or she provoked the situation.
It is important that you keep your dog enclosed and confined, so it doesn’t escape. This area should not be accessible for trespassing kids. The dog must be on leash when out of your property.
