Visiting New Zealand’s Waiheke Island

There are plenty of Waiheke Island hotels to choose from ranging from quaint and cosy bed and breakfast inns to luxury hotels and lodges on the beach. Expect to pay more for hotels and lodgings on or overlooking the beach. There are several hostels for those travelling on a budget, and plenty of options for self catering. And it isn’t surprising that the island is a popular place to get married, with several local companies offering wedding services.

Regardless of where you stay, you are guaranteed a relaxing and enjoyable stay on Waiheke Island, which is just a 35 minute journey by ferry from the centre of Auckland. The island is known for its pristine beaches, and the many miles of hiking trails through the forests or along the clifftop. Watersports of all kinds are popular here, including jet skiing, sailing, diving and snorkeling. There are several wineries on the island, as well as restaurants to suit every budget, many specializing in freshly caught seafood.

But you don’t really need to do any of the above in order to appreciate and enjoy the peace and beauty of Waiheke Island, whether from a blanket on the beach or your hotel balcony.
