The term Indie became associated globally with these labels and soon roped in the alternative rock labels and genre which included bands of the grunge and punk revival status in the States and Britpop in the UK of the mainstream in the ’90s.

It all together comprised the bands and genre’s with a more outsider and or underground perspective to the industry.

With the growth of the internet importance on the music industry and its changes in the way, they handle the acts brought instant fame to most of the Indie bands in the 2000s which also led to the claims and questions on the significance of the term Indie.
