Using the wood from an old building can give you wood that is well-seasoned and therefore highly durable. There are however some problems that can arise with the use of this wood.
Rustic lumber is very unique and what you may find available today may not be available tomorrow when you actually need the wood. The wood may also not be available in the quantity that you require, and in case you do need an extra plank or two at a later date, you will find it hard to get wood that matches the original. If you have included it in your design, you will have to buy it as soon as it is available and not wait for when it is actually needed to be installed.
Old wood can contain screws, nails and other defects that you will have to accept and be careful of. The ability to make it fit into particular specifications or dimensions may also be quite limited.
