Printed Circuit Boards Eliminate The Need For Connecting Electrical Components Using Wires

A printed circuit board or PCB is a board that has pads and lines that allow various points on it to be connected together. It helps in the connection of various components and connectors, so that power and the necessary signals are routed between any linked physical devices.

PCBs have alternating layers made from different materials that are laminated together with adhesives and heat so that they result in one single object. Most PCBs have a base material of fiberglass or other materials. A copper layer in the form of a foil is laminated to this baseboard with an adhesive and heated to make it bond. Some PCBs are double-sided and can have this copper foil can be applied on both sides of the baseboard. A solder mask layer covers the copper foil and insulates the copper layer from accidental contact with any conductive material. The required pattern is replicated on the protective mask and etching helps to remove the copper that is not wanted.
