Plastic free products are becoming widely available thanks to efforts to reduce plastic consumption. In many places reducing the use of plastic is a choice. However, in some states using plastic for certain products like straws and shopping bags is becoming illegal. There are plenty of reasons why the plastic free trend is a good idea.
The most obvious reason to forego the plastic is commonly considered the most important, the environment. Plastic takes a very long time to degrade if it degrades at all. What might appear as degrading is actually large pieces breaking down into micro-plastics. These micro-plastics are finding their way into the bodies of living organisms including humans and the foods that we eat. Certain kinds of plastic are have found to be toxic to mammals effecting behavior and birth rates. These types of plastics become a permanent toxic legacy that can never be erased.
