Everywhere we turn these days it seems like it’s all about hype. Before we even catch up with a growing trend, new ones come along backed by promotions that go on and on about overstated claims to stoke up interest. The same can be said in the field of health and wellness where there are always promises of the next big thing. But there is one hype that’s on a roll right now that many believe to be well-deserved: the excitement surrounding hemp oil.
Organic hemp oil, also known as organic hempseed oil, is derived from the seeds of the plant Cannabis Sativa. These seeds undergo cold pressing resulting in unrefined hemp oil that comes in light green color and with a nutty flavor. Despite coming from just the seeds, hemp seed oil is packed with fatty acids and nutrients as well as potent bio-active compounds that on the whole give it the recognition of having the highest levels of anti-oxidants among vegetable oils.
Hemp seed oil is distinct from cannabidiol or CBD oil in that the latter is produced using — not the seeds — but the stalks, flowers, and leaves of the plant.
Studies have been made demonstrating the medicinal properties of hemp seed oil as they apply to skin problems, mental health, heart health, muscle tension, and stress and pain relief. Although said studies and accompanying research are still relatively new, prospects are bright that hempseed oil’s gradual but promising move to the limelight of mainstream medicine will gain more momentum as interest grows among both consumers and scientists.
