Medical Diagnostic Diabetic Tests

Diabetes is an affliction that is increasing in frequency. There are two types that can affect a range of people, from infants to older individuals. If one or their doctor suspects that they may have diabetes, there are a number of diabetic tests that can be conducted to aid in diagnosis.

Firstly, doctors may test an individual’s glucose levels. This can be done during a routine blood draw or using a simple finger prick test. These levels may be checked at various times, before and after eating to determine a baseline. If these levels are abnormal, doctors will move onto further testing.

Next, doctors often use a fasting plasma glucose, or FPG, test. This is a more in-depth blood test. Another number that is commonly checked is the A1C. A1C levels reflect average blood glucose numbers over recent months. These tests can help medical professionals provide a more accurate diagnosis to their patients.
