Carbohydrates known as FODMAPs are known to cause digestive discomfort. For some people, consuming them will make them feel stomach pain or a sudden need to go to the bathroom. Both are incredibly inconvenient, especially when outside the house and in high-pressure situations. It is possible to prevent such episodes by identifying food items that contain these unwanted substances and avoiding them. This has been dubbed as the FODMAP diet.
The restrictions can be tough for people who are used to some of the items that are now in the restricted list. These include wheat, rye, onion, artichoke, garlic, beans, and some fruits. The good news is that there are plenty of other things that can replace these for satisfying meals. It is even possible to make FODMAP desserts as long as one sticks to suggested items like lactose-free milk, orange, melon, grapes, nuts, and seeds.
