In the hunched and scratched ceramic the superficial hunched layer is removed to bring out the reddish color of the underlying biscuit: with this system (pointed graffiti) the contours of the figuration is drawn, which can then be improved by painting them.
Subsequently the temporary closure of the husk was demolished and the finished product was extracted. We can distinguish three fundamental methods used in the past in ceramic decoration and Christmas Limoges Boxes. They are the painting, the scratch and the addition of clayey substances in relief.
While the painting consists in spreading with the brush no or more colors over the surface, the method of the graffito is based on the removal of the coating (enamel), when it is still in the fresh state, by means of a pointed tool or a hairpin (splint). We speak of graffiti with a lowered bottom when the contours are engraved, removing the widest part of hunched with a wide-pointed tool or hairpin.
