How A Barcode Tracking System Works

One of the oldest and most widely used product tracking systems ever developed is the barcode tracking system. Every product that is produced in the country has a barcode detailing the name of the product as well as a short description. This tracking system has three main components. The first is the barcode. The second is the bar code scanner. The last component is the tracking software installed on POS computers or central computer of the organization.

When suppliers deliver products, each product is scanned using the barcode scanner. Details of the scanned products will then be automatically uploaded to the POS or central computer. When the product is sold, the scanner at the POS will update the tracking system that the product has been sold, and remove it from the available inventory. Employees should be properly trained on how to properly use the tracking software.
