Veterans often have a hard time adjusting to civilian life, and various organizations exist for helping veterans transition. One of the biggest difficulties is finding work; around 500,000 veterans are unemployed at any one time. Some veterans have never had a job before, feel they have no useful skills, and are struggling to reconcile their military experience with useful workplace skills. Many veterans realize that it can be a good opportunity to literally learn something new, regardless of their military background, going back to school if necessary. One of the most useful places to go for help is the US Department of Veterans Affairs, which offers help with job applications, creating a resume, and finding local job fairs, especially those with companies that focus on hiring. The VA is also a good place to network with others who might be in the same situation.
