Having the necessary skills during the firefighting recruitment process is not required or mandatory as you will go the training after recruitment. However, you must have the capability to learn new skills imparted and the ability to apply them in critical and stressful strenuous situations.

Firefighter Recruitment occurs in a multi-stage process that entails a range of behavioral, cognitive, and physical assessments. Before you consider applying for the fire fighting job, ensure you fulfill the following requirements:

Be an Australian citizen or have permanent working rights or residence
Have updated first aid certificate
Have the ability to obtain Heavy Rigid (HR-B) driver license.

During the process, behavioral and medical tests will be carried out to determine your suitability. Personality and behavioral tests help in assessing your suitability to become a firefighter. Behavioral assessments include interviews and personality indicator assessments.
