There are dozens of sailing classes offered all over the country, but finding the right one for you takes some research. Browsing online, talking to others in forums and groups, and talking to vendors at local boat shows are all good places to start. Choosing a school or instructor with a good reputation is obviously important, as is working with an instructor who loves their job and is patient, works well with people and is able to communicate clearly. A good class will have experienced and certified instructors, as well as a mix of classroom and hands on instruction. Ideally, your class should have no more than four students to each instructor, ensuring everyone benefits from personal instruction. And look for a class that focuses on the level of skill most appropriate to you, whether beginner, intermediate or somewhere in between.
