Electric vehicles have been increasing in range since they started. The first generation was able to carry batteries with 20 kWh which was good enough for 100 miles. In the next generation, capacities climbed to 85 kWh which expanded the range to about 300 miles.
The technology is certainly getting better, and so are the EV car charging stations that are necessary to allow truly long distance travel. Stations with fast chargers can provide up to 100 km of driving in as little as 10 minutes using direct current at a power of 120 kW with 300-500 V and 300-350 A.
The challenge is make these advanced charging stations more commonplace to serve those who might need them. Large investments are necessary to do so. Most are concentrated in urban areas with high EV populations but are gradually reaching other locations.
