Wine is one of the few commodities that can be placed in storage for years and then have a good resale value. That value might actually increase at an auction, but valuation gives a great baseline for what the wine or collection is worth. In some cases, a complete case of an older wine can be worth substantially greater than an individual bottle. Buying great wine and holding onto it is sometimes a profitable investment.
