The data transmission rate (including data transfer rate, data rate, or colloquially transmission speed, connection speed) is the amount of digital data that is transmitted within a time unit over a transmission channel.
The maximum bandwidth that can be transmitted error-free via a channel is referred to as a channel capacity. This is a measure of the performance of a channel together with the latency (delay response). A channel may, for example be a compound in the computer network, the connection to the Internet service provider, Data Backup Support Sydney or an interface to a database.
