One of the best ways to see Sydney is by walking, and walks cover a variety of subjects, although extremely popular are Sydney crime tours. As the name suggests, these walks take in the city’s darker past, its underworld, criminals, drugs, gangs and convicts. Most walks begin and end in the city’s King’s Cross neighbourhood, one of the most colourful in Sydney. During the early 1800s, this area was a rough and dangerous place, known for its street gangs, illegal drinking clubs, prostitution and organized crime. Things have changed over the years; today King’s Cross is still fascinating, but better known for its more Bohemian and alternative vibe. Your walk will last from about 90 minutes to two hours, and will include stops to take photographs, and perhaps a drink in a well known area bar. Most Sydney walks take place whatever the weather.
