Machines are built to make work easier and also to increase output and improve efficiency of operations. It is important to note that machines, such as hydraulic systems, can break down for a number of reasons. When this happens, a competent mechanical engineer should be called in to offer repair services. The following are common causes of hydraulic cylinder breakdown:
i) Overloading
When a hydraulic cylinder is overloaded, the piston rod can bend. This will lead to a breakdown as the cylinder will not be able to perform the intended function. Overloading can also lead to breaking of the piston rod and cylinder.
ii) Poor Use
Operators of hydraulic equipment need to be properly trained to use these systems. An imbalance when loading the equipment can lead to damage. For instance, a tipper truck may tip and fall to the side when unloading sand, dirt or ballast, bending the telescopic cylinder in the process.
