Causes Hydraulic Cylinder Breakdown

There are many types of hydraulic power systems in existence. Some of these systems only have a single cylinder while others have multiple cylinders, some single-acting or telescopic while others are double-acting. Whatever the case, hydraulic cylinder breakdown can occur for one reason or another. When this happens, a qualified professional should be called in to carry out repairs or to replace the entire cylinder.

Wear and tear of parts can be blamed for most cylinder problems. For instance, the hydraulic seals in a cylinder may get worn out and cause a serious leak of hydraulic fluid. As a result, the cylinder will malfunction.

Improper loading can also cause a breakdown. After all, the piston rod inside the cylinder may break or bend due to overloading. Lack of maintenance of parts can also cause problems. Bearings need to be replaced regularly. They also need to be lubricated to prevent problems.
