To save time. cut thumb-sized pieces of cotton wool. place them in a small plastic, sealable container and wet them with surgical spirits. To clean the cord. take one piece of cotton wool, squeeze out excess surgical spirits and then gently, but firmly. wipe the top of the cord once.
There may be some mucus. This is dead tissue and nothing to worry about. Take a second piece of cotton wool. lift the cord stump to wipe underneath. Your baby may cry, but this is because the liquid is cold, not because it hurts. While replacing the nappy. fold the front piece forward so that it doesn’t cover up the stump.
